What to do with Extra Herbs from your Garden

I have more herbs in my garden that I know what to do with.  So, I decided to make a cool herbal bath.  It's really pretty and smells amazing!  Looking at these photos, it almost looks like something that is too elegant to share with the kids.  But, my kids loved making these.

Everything we used was from the garden.

  • Lavender
  • Pineapple Mint
  • Lemon Basil
  • A flower

The kids have fun plucking the herbs from the garden.  We just took some of each and put them in a plastic cup.  We added water and froze the cup.  I didn't break of the leaves or cut anything up.  I wanted to keep everything in tact so that it was easier to fish out of the bath tub (and not go down the drain).

You may be wondering why you'd want to put a frozen cup of herbs in your bath, but it's actually really fun.  In the bath, the kids were fascinated as they watched the water melt and smelled the different scents as they emerged.  The water was warm enough where adding the frozen chunk of ice didn't affect the water temperature much.  And, our forecast shows temperatures reaching over 100 degrees, so this seems like the perfect treat on hot summer days.  This is all about sight and scent - it's not something to eat.

I still have tons of extra herbs in my garden, so if you have any other ideas to use up oregano, mint, basil, chives, and sage, let me know.
