3 Ideas To Help Kids With Back To School Jitters

In 1959, when my mom was a little girl, she was so excited for her first day of school. She had a new outfit, her hair was curled, and she was looking forward to meeting her new teacher. Since my mom lived only a couple blocks from her catholic school in Philadelphia, it made sense to walk to school, but on the way to school, she saw something she never expected to see.

As my mom and grandmom were walking on the sidewalk, they saw my mom's friend, Gloria, but, she wasn't going school ike she should be. She was hysterical crying and running back home! Even though I wasn't there, I can just imagine this sight. This little girl had so much anxiety about the first day of school, she just wanted to come home.

I know how hard it can be. Two years ago, my son went to a new preschool and had a very rough time adjusting. He didn't have the chance to run home, but I know he would have if he could!

Have you ever experienced something like this? Do you think your child will have back-to-school jitters this year?

Here are 3 Ideas to Make Back-to-School More Fun:

1. Have a Back to School Party.  It doesn't have to be anything fancy. Meet your friends for ice cream at the park or invite everyone over for smore's. This will give kids a chance to reconnect with friends they haven't seen in a while.

2. Surprise the teacher with a gift. It's true that giving can make you feel just as good as receiving. Make or buy your child's new teacher a simple back-to-school gift. It's an easy way to make your child and their teacher feel special on the first day back. Buy your teacher some personalized name labels, or make a back-to-school flower bouquets! Don't forget to buy your child personalized labels too. It may cost a little more now, but you're likely to save big in the long run when you don't have to replace lost belongings.

Bright Star has 2 main types of labels: stick-on and iron-on. The stick-on labels will withstand the wear and tear of dishwashers. They're 100% waterproof, scratch resistant and will stay stuck for years. Iron-on labels are quick and easy to pop on to all your kids clothing and they will stay stuck and look great for years to come.

3. Decorate your house.  My friend Denise from Painted Home Design always has the coolest home design ideas that incorporate upcycled materials. She decorated her mantle to celebrate the new school year. You let your kids help you decorate for Halloween and Christmas, right? Include them in the back-to-school decorating too, so that everyone can get in the spirit!
